Nile in training at Nailsea gym
British gymnast Nile Wilson is coming to Nailsea to run a workshop.
This is a coup for Gemini Gym who were chosen by the Olympic bronze medallist as THE place to hold the Nile Wilson Experience in the south west.
Nile, aged 23, who is from Leeds, will be coming with a top coaching team and on offer will be one-to-one specialist sessions with the world class gymnast on Sunday, November 17. 2016.
Nile won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on the horizontal bar.
A coach full of young gymnasts from the North Somerset club travelled to Preston in September for an earlier workshop and so impressed Nile with their talent and enthusiasm the five-time junior European champion decided to take his national tour to the south west at the Blackfriars Road gym.
Peter Colley, 10, was among the youngsters who attended the Lancashire event.
His mum Sharon said: “We are absolutely over the moon that Nile has chosen our gym as part of his UK tour.
“Nile Wilson who started training aged four is an inspiration to the Gemini Gym Boys squad, who are currently looking for a fully qualified boys gymnastics coach to help boost their existing team, the opportunity for our boys to be coached by a world class gymnast is amazing.”
Tickets go on sale on Saturday, October 19, although Gemini youngsters will have a 24hr prioirity booking opportunity from Friday, October 18.
Those signing-up will be offered a two-hour time slot between 9am-4pm with only 50 spaces per session.
In total there will be 200 slots to fill and the day is certain to be a sell-out.
It costs £65 which includes a £10 voucher for Nile Wilson merchandise.
Sharon added: “With the high number of gyms around here we are expecting this to sell out really quickly so Gemini gymnasts have to use their pre booking advantage or they could miss out.”
Nile’s own list of teenaged achievements is vast.
He was crowned British Junior Champion in March 2014 and won five gold medals at the 2014 European Championships in Sofia.
Aged 18 he was the youngest gymnast to be representing England at the Commonwealth Games 2014 and as part of the five-man England senior squad he won the team gold medal and bronze in the All-Round Gymnastics Men’s Final in Glasgow.
He took an Olympic bronze medal in the men's horizontal bar at the 2016 Summer Olympics; he was a world medallist as a member of the silver-medal winning British team at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the first world men's team medal in British gymnastics history.
Earlier this year Nile underwent successful surgery for problems with his neck and arm.
Sadly, as a result he had to pull out of the 2019 British Championships, Gymnastics World Cup and European Championships.
But while waiting for his operation he found time to write a book called Raising the Bar published in December 2018, market his designer range of gym wear and court his thousands of social media fans.
His book is a guide for anyone new to the sport and will show just how easy it is to get and stay fit using gymnastics.
And as a YouTube sensation he has more than 750,000 subscribers to his channel.
His videos are not only educational, but also highly entertaining and to date have been viewed more than 45 million times!
Gemini Gymnastic Club is no stranger to hosting world class gymnasts.
Beth Tweddle officially opened its new gym at Blackfriars Road in 2009 and
came back in 2014 for a second ceremony after extensive improvements were made thanks to a £103,000 grant from Sports England.
And as a teenager former Nailsea School student Jack Day trained at the gym and went on to take two British Schools tumbling championship titles.
More recently Nailsea gym member Felicity Harper won gold in all-round over 45s novice section in the Adult British Championship held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre Telford.
