By the end of the night the audience was on its feet. I think we'd have all stayed there dancing all night, given the chance.

In the words of the classic movie itself, Grease the Musical, ‘gave me chills’ and was the most ‘electrifying’ production I’ve seen in a while.

Simply 10/10.

If you are looking for a show which will get you up on your feet and keep them tapping all night – then Grease the Musical is most definitely ‘the one that you want.’

On stage at the Bristol Hippodrome, this musical based on the film made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John in 1978, (yes, it was that long ago) is high energy from the minute the curtain rises and keeps pace throughout.

If you loved the film, you need to book your seat for this production. It follows the original story of High School teen dramas, but with a fresh, young cast which with it brings new twists and songs.

The production follows the classic story of the T-Birds, renamed the Burger Palace Boys and the effervescent, full of attitude, Pink Ladies.

Marley Fenton excels in the lead role of the ‘too cool for school, hip swivelling, crotch thrusting Danny Zuko, while Hope Dawe plays a convincing ‘sweet’ Sandy Dumbrowski.

Rebecca Stenhouse is the sassy Betty Rizzo, belting out classics like There are Worse Things I Could Do much to the joy of the captivated audience while Ben Nichols plays her long standing ‘on off’ boyfriend Kenickie.

The staging of this show is stand out with an imaginative use of sets that quickly transported the audience back to the Rydal High School of  the 1970s.

Great costumes, choreography that simply didn’t miss a beat, imaginative lighting and an impressive orchestra all made for one of the best productions I’ve seen in a while

One of the highlights was Joe Gash as Teen Angel and Vince Fontaine.

His performance of Beauty School Drop Out with student Frenchie was so perfectly camp – complete with pink wings and wigs.

Also impressive is when Kenickie’s beat up motor, Greased Lightning, is cleverly wheeled onto stage while the cast dance on top of it.

This show is testament to the enduring script from the 70s original, but brought to life once again by an energetic and charismatic cast which gel perfectly together on stage.
