The Nailsea area Poppy Appeal 2024 raised £13,934 for the Royal British Legion.

That is fabulously generous and a credit to our town.

Every penny of that money will be used to support veterans who need help.

This might be grants for essentials such as food and clothing, help meeting heating costs or home improvement support, addressing mobility or security issues.

Additionally, the Legion provides dementia support and care homes for those in need.

I took over the organisation of the Poppy Appeal in September 2024.

I am a Royal Air Force veteran of 26 years, serving as an engineering officer at the front line, in aircraft project teams and HQ Air Command.

Following retirement from the service I worked a further 12 years in Aviation Safety until I retired (properly) in 2024.

I enjoyed a full and rewarding career with the Royal Air Force and am fortunate to have come through the experience uninjured either physically or mentally.

However, not all my colleagues can say the same and I recognise the importance of the work the Royal British Legion and other service charities perform.

Hence, I am delighted and humbled by the support shown by the people of Nailsea.

With the help of the Royal British Legion, I was able to assemble a small team of volunteers who helped me with the appeal.

Their support was invaluable and they deserve our warmest congratulations and thanks.

This was my first year as the Nailsea area Poppy Appeal organiser and I look forward to expanding that team to allow us to do even better next year.

If you feel able to assist, please contact me via email at nigelturner6174@gmail.com.

Similarly, I must thank all the organisations, clubs and pubs, shops and schools that supported us by hosting appeal boxes or our Poppy Appeal stall.

Finally, thanks again to everyone who donated and enabled support to be given to a veteran somewhere in the UK.
